Massage Modalities Available at KS Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork

Swedish Massage

This is the most common type of massage therapy. Long fluid strokes are used going toward the
direction of the heart, working the superficial muscles to relax the body.
Good for- First time massages, circulation, relaxation, stress relief, headache relief

Deep Tissue

Deep tissue massage works with smaller, more focused strokes to release tension
and adhesions in the deeper muscle layers. *Deeper pressure does not always mean deep tissue.*
Good for-chronic aches and pains, injuries, muscle tension, sports related treatment and recovery, range of motion

Therapeutic Massage

Therapeutic massage is where multiple modalities are used throughout the session in order
to customize the massage to meet each client’s individual needs.
Good for- athletes, office workers, commuters, laborers, anyone!

Trigger Point Therapy

Technique that applies direct pressure to a trigger point or ‘knot’ which is a buildup of muscle
tissue that can possibly cause pain or tension in an area. Once the direct pressure is
released, fresh bloodflow is brought to the area and the muscle fibers are ‘reset’.
Good for- pain relief

Myofascial

Myofascial technique is often used in conjunction with other types of massage therapy
to help loosen or relax tight areas. Fascia is a plastic wrap/spider web type connective tissue that
encapsulates muscles. This technique involves using slow movements with continuous pressure to the fascial
tissue to eliminate fascial restrictions which may be causing pain or hindering the ability to work into the muscle.
Good for- scar tissue, chronic tightness, help increase range of motion

Reflexology

Reflexology is an ancient holistic approach to healing which uses direct pressure
on spots on the ears, hands, and/or feet that correspond with different organs or muscles throughout the body.
Good for- headaches, relaxation, circulation, overall wellbeing

Hot Stones

This type of massage uses smooth flat basalt stones or sometimes Himalayan salt stones
that have been heated, to warm up and loosen muscles.
Good for- chronically tight muscles, relaxation, stress relief, circulation

Prenatal

Massage that is catered to the expectant mom and the many changes her body goes through during pregnancy.
Prenatal massages are usually only done after the first trimester has completed.

Chair Massage

A faster paced massage done using a special massage chair. Done completely clothed, it is convenient to help
ease general tension in any environment. Great for office, parties, outdoor events, fundraisers, and more.
